Last night my boyfriend and I went to see Puss in Boots in Imax 3D. It was on my “I’ll get around to it, maybe at the cheap theatre” list until several people told me I MUST see it, especially because of the Bad Kitty references.
Thank you so much for the push, people. It’s a wonderful movie! A clever, funny, sweet tale of friendship and redemption. When Puss calls himself a Bad Kitty near the beginning and affectionately calls Kitty Soft Paws (the other cat in the picture) a Bad Kitty near the end both my man and I giggled. I’m sure those sitting nearby wondered what we thought was so funny.
The movie was using the term fairly literally – the cats are thieves and Puss himself is an unapologetic lady’s man – er cat. By the time Puss tells Kitty she’s “bad” we know it’s because he loves her and respects who she is and how she came to his aid out of love and friendship. That is the truth about being a Bad Kitty – honoring who you are and being there for those you love without obligation or resentment becasue you love yourself as much as you love them.
I have recently created a new definition for Bad Kitty. It is:
B eautiful (as you are, no changes required)
A uthentic (you are amazing just as you are, no changes required)
D ivine (honoring your spirit, your passion, yourself)
K ompletely (no compromise)
I ndividual (beautiful in your uniqueness)
T otally (every bit of you adds up to something fabulous)
T rue (constant, unaffected by the standards of others)
Y OU (yes, YOU are a Bad Kitty!)
There is a scene at the beginning of the movie where Kitty makes fun of Puss for having boots that have heels that are a little high for a man. You, my Bad Kitties, can wear heels as high as you like! The higher the better. A friend told me recently that nothing makes her feel sexier than a pair of high heeled boots. I agree! That’s one thing I love about winter – pulling on my sexy boots.
I don’t know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot! ~Marilyn Monroe
What is it that makes you feel your Bad Kitty?
- If it’s high heels, wear them.
- If it’s dancing, do it more often.
- If it’s creating something beautiful, make time for it.
- If it’s playing with children, find ways to laugh and play.
- If it’s dressing in bright colors, what’s stopping you?
Whatever your expression of your Bad Kitty is, own it, do it and enjoy it! If anyone tries to stop you, give them Puss’ famous look and keep going! You are the only
one who can stop you from being you. Be a Bad Kitty and go against the expectations and standards of others. Live by your expectations and standards and see what happens!
When you finally get clear about your calling, it’s possible that the people around you may not understand it. Why? Because your calling wasn’t given to anyone else! It was given to you and that’s A-OK! ~Lisa Nichols
Be Beautiful, Be YOU!
